Google Releases Deep Review for Technical Document Checks

Google opened Deep Review, evolving its Paper Assistant Tool into a technical-document feedback service with PDF and text input.

Verification becomes the next bottleneck

Google Research released Deep Review on October 14, 2026 to provide feedback on logic, mathematics, and factual claims in technical documents. It evolves the academic Paper Assistant Tool, or PAT. Initial inputs are PDFs and plain text. Google describes two complimentary reviews per week and additional usage or integration with a Gemini API key; limits and supported formats should be checked at use time.

Google says the earlier program handled over 16,000 manuscripts across major computer-science conferences. A separate ICML retrospective corroborates operation of its PAT pilot. Respondent satisfaction, however, is not a measurement of complete error detection or proof that a paper is correct.

Review the review, too

Development teams can investigate the service as an aid for checking assumptions and claims in technical designs. Each criticism still needs comparison with source text, code, and experiments, with the owner making the final decision. Google says uploads are not used for model training but are retained for one year for display in the interface. Permission and retention requirements therefore matter before submitting confidential drafts or company documents.
